Bollywood legend Govinda, 60, suffered a bullet wound to his leg early this morning after accidentally discharging his licensed revolver at his Juhu residence. The actor was immediately rushed to Criticare Hospital, where doctors successfully performed surgery to extract the bullet from just below his knee. Govinda is currently in stable condition but is expected to remain hospitalized for several days, followed by a month’s rest for full recovery.
The accident occurred as Govinda was preparing to leave for a morning flight to Kolkata, where he had a scheduled performance. His manager, Shashi Sinha, who was already at the airport, recounted the incident: “Govinda ji was about to leave his residence when the accident happened. It’s by God’s grace that the injury was confined to his leg, and nothing more serious occurred.”
According to reports, the actor was placing his licensed revolver into a cupboard when the weapon slipped from his hands and discharged. Alone at home at the time, Govinda immediately contacted his wife, Sunita Ahuja, and his manager. Mrs. Ahuja, who was in Kolkata, promptly returned to Mumbai upon hearing the news. Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja, also rushed to the hospital to be by his side.
Dr. Ramesh Agarwal, who led the surgery, provided an update on the actor’s condition. “The bullet was removed successfully, and Mr. Govinda is stable. He will likely be discharged in three to four days, but he will need at least a month to fully recover.”
In an audio message from the hospital, Govinda addressed his fans, thanking them for their prayers and well-wishes. “I was hit by a bullet, but it has been removed. I am grateful to the doctors and to all of you for your blessings,” the actor said, expressing gratitude for the support he’s received.
Family members and well-wishers quickly gathered at the hospital upon hearing of the incident. His brother Kirti Kumar shared, “He has incredible willpower and wanted to be discharged today, but doctors have advised that he stay for a few more days.” Nephew Vinay Anand reflected on the gravity of the situation: “It could have been much worse. He was lucky. Govinda ji believes Bajrang Bali saved him.”
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde personally called the actor to check on his well-being. In a statement, Mr. Shinde said, “I have conveyed my deep concern for Govinda ji’s health. On behalf of the government and the people of Maharashtra, I wish him a speedy recovery and assured him of any support he and his family may need during this time.”
Although Govinda has not filed a police complaint, authorities have confiscated his firearm and initiated an investigation. The actor’s revolver was legally licensed, and security has been heightened around the hospital as a precaution.
Govinda, an iconic figure in Bollywood, is revered for his versatile acting and dance skills. News of the accident has left fans across the globe anxious, but his stable condition has offered some relief. Many continue to send messages of love and support, with hopes that their beloved star will make a swift and full recovery.
