Diya Kumari is an Indian politician from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), currently serving as the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan alongside Prem Chand Bairwa in Bhajan Lal Sharma’s ministry. She represents the Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency in the 16th Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. Born into the royal family of Jaipur, Diya Kumari is the daughter of Bhawani Singh, an Indian Army officer and hotelier, and Padmini Devi. Her grandfather, Man Singh II, was the last ruling Maharaja of Jaipur. Diya Kumari completed her education at Modern School, New Delhi, G.D. Somani Memorial School, Mumbai, and Maharani Gayatri Devi Girls’ Public School, Jaipur.
She holds a Graduate Diploma in Fine Art (Decorative Painting) from Chelsea School of Arts, London, and an Honorary Doctorate in Philosophy from Amity University, Jaipur.

Political Career:
Diya Kumari’s father, Bhawani Singh, contested the 1989 Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket but was defeated by the BJP candidate. Her step-grandmother, Gayatri Devi, had been elected as an MP three times in 1962, 1967, and 1971. Diya Kumari joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on September 10, 2013, and contested and won the 2013 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly election from Sawai Madhopur. In 2019, she was elected as a Member of Parliament to the Lok Sabha from Rajsamand.
Diya Kumari is an active member of the BJP and has been appointed as the Brand Ambassador for “Save the Girl Child” by the Government of Rajasthan. In the 2023 Rajasthan polls, she became the BJP MLA from Vidhyadhar Nagar constituency.
On December 12, 2023, Diya Kumari assumed the role of Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan in the ministry of Bhajan Lal Sharma.

The marriage, which garnered attention due to its non-royal nature, ended in divorce in December 2018. Diya Kumari owns the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, focused on women’s empowerment through social entrepreneurship, which she runs with the active participation of her children.

She takes a keen interest in maintaining ‘The Friends of Museum,’ which was established by her father in the city palace for artists and craftsmen to exhibit their skills and crafts. Through the museum, she ensures the promotion of the arts of Jaipur which were on the verge of extinction and supports craftsmen associated with it. In 2013, she revived the tradition of the Gunijankhana, wherein the Jaipur Royal Family provided an institutional forum for singers, musicians, and dancers from the 17th century to 1949.
- Keeping her contribution to the tourism and hospitality sector in mind, Diya Kumari was appointed as the Chairperson of Assocham’s Rajasthan Unit. The Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM) is a non-governmental organisation and advocacy group that represents the interests of trade and commerce in India. In 2012, she actively worked towards inspiring farmers to take up organic farming under ASSOCHAM’s programme.
